Hello Scottsboro Rock!

Well now. I think we have had more snow days this year than we have had altogether in the last 10 years! It has been beautiful, but I must say I am ready for the spring. However I also find I am not going to grip about a little snow, some rain or cold days. These are nothing in comparison with the devastation others are experiencing around the world. It is easy to become numb or unconcerned with matters in foreign lands being we do not have friends or families directly involved. I am reminded of the verses in Hebrews 13 that charge us to remember our brother in hardships. That we are to continue in brotherly love. In Christ we have brothers and sisters suffering in Haiti, Chile and regions beyond. Let’s keep them in our prayers.

I am so excited that tomorrow we start our Serious Series on Wednesday nights in Scottboro. The first series will be a nine week study on the gifts of the Spirit. Come ready to learn and desirious to receive!

Also remember we are taking up our “Finish what we have begun” offering this Sunday March 7th. This will enable us to finish the renovations we started this past year. All we have left in the Kids Quest sanctuary and the Worship department. Together we can make this happen!

FrostFest 2010 is upon us and I can’t wait to jump in the van and take the trek to Gatlinburg to have some time away with our students and leaders! Every year FrostFest is one of the student events that I look forward to the most and this year is no exception. Joining up with our Central and West campuses is an awesome opportunity for our students to get better acquainted not only with the students from those campuses, but the leaders and pastors as well. Good times!!!

We also have several other things on the horizon…PulseNites, a new series on Wednesday nights, and more! (This means more blogs are on the horizon also)

Hi Men,

WOW!  What a party!  Thanks to all you guys who where able to join us for the Super Bowl party.  There were over 30 men at the party.  It was great seeing all of you talking and laughing and yelling.  Fellowship is an important part of growing in Christ and being the church.  Seeing you in fellowship is encouraging because it means that we are uniting together and growing in Christ.

There is more fun to come.  Please mark your calendar and make plans to go with us on Saturday, February 27^th, as we go to watch Rick Reynolds wrestle.  We’ll meet at the church at 6 p.m. and go out to eat together and then go to the National Guard Armory to see Rick in action.  Wrestling will begin at 8 p.m.

I hope to see you then!

Hello Scottsboro Rock!

I am looking for ward to getting on the plane in a few hours and making the trek home. There truly is no place like home. Nor is there anywhere like The Rock Scottsboro.

Tomorrow will be the start of our “Doing Life Together” series. I hope to see you there as we start this journey of building deeper relationships God’s way.

Hey Guys, I am excited about the Super Bowl party tomorrow as well. Bring a friend and let meet some of your brothers!

Hello Scottsboro Rock!

I can not tell you how hard it was to board the plane Sunday afternoon knowing I would not see you guys until next Sunday February 7th. I was however excited to hook up with our interns who arrived hours before me, although they left out days before me. They are all doing well and I had a extra delight in having Stewart here with them.

Gretchen and I want to say thank you to all of you who have kept us in your prayers and thoughtfulness. We are so very grateful to the Lord for bringing Jubilee Abel into the world at such a perfect time for us. Both baby and Mommy are doing just fine. I must say having Jubilee added to the family and Gretchen recovering made it that much more difficult to leave. His grace is sufficient.

It is an honor to serve the Lord and help train these young missionaries in the field of evangelism. Yet the greater honor in my life is being called to pastor you at the Rock Scottsboro Campus. We honestly could not be who we are if you were not part of who we are!

You are loved and highly favored.

Last night we took our regular Journey’s Men’s meeting and turned it into a hour of power. I want to say thank you to all the guys who came out and gave an hour of their time to help make some great advancements in our work detail. They together did more than they ever could apart!

The renovations are really moving along quite well. It is now obvious where everything will  be, from the nursery to the Kids Quest sanctuary and classrooms etc.

We are hoping to be ready to go in September. Yikes, that is not to far away. But all things are possible!

If you have some spare time please come by and give a hand. There is much to be done.

Greater things are yet to be done in our city!

As June is coming to a close. Pulse youth and Kids Quest are getting in high gear for their summer camps. I know around our house it is a sure conversation piece. “I can’t wait until Verge” or ” It is almost time for Camp to Know Him.” both of these are great camps and wonderful experiences for our children. I want to ask you to seriously be covering them in prayer.

The camp dates our listed on this web page but if you need any further info please contact the church office or send us an email.

Even though June is coming to an end. It did not get past us with out us being able to get started on the next construction phase. We have started building the walls for the new nursery rooms and will be continuing into the Kids Quest sanctuary! Thank you so much to the Rock Family for your contributions to make this all possible. The “Together We Can” offering will enable us to carry on with the plans or rennovation.

There is much on the horizon for The Rock Family in Scottsboro. He is God of our city and He has yet greater things to do here. I trust that you are like me. If God is going to do something I want to be there when it is being done. Together we can not only build a facility, but we can reach a city with the Love of Christ. Join me and others this saturday for “Love thy Neighbor” outreach. We will meet at 10:AM the 27th of June.

Then do not forget this Saturday night @ 6:PM. Unveiled our night of worship. You will not want to miss it.

Wow!

I have forgotten to blog. One reason it is so good to blog is because there is so much going on in our lives it makes for a way to stay connected. But the problem is that there is so much going on we forget to blog!Or at least I do.

This weekend we will be having our 2nd “together we can” offering. This will be to finish our rennovations. We have been given a matching offering of up to $20,000. Without any knowledge from the contributors, our goal was $40,000 to be able to complete the task at hand. Is not that just like God. He knows what we have need of before we even ask. Our plans are to start the new phase as early as next week. So please be praying to see how the Lord will lead each of us to do our part.

Hello,

I trust you had a wonderful Memorial Day! We had a blast as a family and with friends. As a matter of fact I am still feeling it! It started out a cloudy day and ended up a cloudy day. However, somewhere in between the sun came out and put a sizzle on my skin.

That was not the only reason my day was wonderful. I found myself throughout the day full of wonder thinking of the men and women who had laid down their lives for our country’s stance on freedom. What was it like to die for millions of people you will never know. To really leave behind families and friends to never hold them or hear them or in some cases to never meet the children who were your very own seed! What is like to be away from all such people and to yet be living and serving our country in some foreign land. Not knowing if you will ever return.

Then I would find myself thinking of the countless of souls who never came to know Jesus as their Saviour or the countless who still might not. Unless those of us who do know Jesus as our Lord and Saviour tell the world of the great freedom we can have in Him. Oh that we would help make a memorial of the life of Christ.

Sunday I spoke a word that ended with “A Personal Code Of Conduct”. I am now on day 2 in my pledge of a 21 one day commitment to this code of conduct. I will be making it available to those who were interested in joining me in making this pledge as well. The scriptures included in the pledge are powerful and not only life changing but life giving. Our conduct is vital to our lives being pleasing to Christ. I want to have this testimony, “he was pleasing to God”.

Wow!

It has already been three years since The Rock has come to Scottsboro. Time sure does fly when you are serving the Eternal One! I can honestly say it has been a wonderful journey thus far. I still remember the day we decided this was where we were suppose to be. And I believe it more now that I did then.

The family and I all know this is where the Lord has it in His heart for us to be. I am grateful to Pastor’s Rusty and Leisa Nelson for making this all possible by obeying the Lord to plant a Rock Campus here in Scottsboro. I would have never dreamt it but praise God they did. It reminds me of the words of the Prophet Habakkuk. “Write the vision and make it plain so that those who read it can run with it.” That is what we are doing, running with the vision.

This Sunday night May 17th at 5:30PM we will have a night of celebration commemorating these three years. Pastor Rusty will be present to speak a word to us as well. Afterwards we will have a time of fellowship with light refreshments. Please make plans to join us. Whether you have been with us from day one or it would be your first time ever we would love to have you come see what is taking place at The Rock.
